The Columbus Lady Cardinals traveled to Kenedy High School to take on the Bishop Lady Badgers in the Regional Finals.

It was a three-game series between two fiercely competitive programs, and it took all three games to decide who moves on to the next round.

Game one: Vs. Bishop, L, 17- 6 In game one it was the Lady Badgers that opened the scoring when they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. They extended their lead in the top of the third inning where they scored 10 runs to hold a 15-0 lead at the end of the third inning.

The Lady Cards responded in the bottom of the fourth where they cut into the Lady Badgers’ lead with three runs scored. The Lady Badgers scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 17-3 before the Lady Cards scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to get to the final score of 17-6.

Kaylea Foster and Peyton Drozd both hit doubles during the loss. Drozd was also in the circle for the Lady Cards along with Mia Post.

They combined to pitch all five innings giving up 17 runs on 13 hits while walking six batters and striking out one batter.

Game two was now a must win for the Lady Cards and with their back against the wall they showed up to play.

Game two @ Bishop, W, 2-1 In game two the Lady Badgers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning where they scored one run. The Lady Cards then responded with one run in the top of the second inning to tie the game up at 1-1.

The game then went scoreless until the tenth inning when Allie Cranek laid down a sacrifice bunt then brought home the Lady Cards second run of the game to give the Lady Cards the lead and eventually the win.

Taylor Morrow hit the only double for the Lady Cards in game two while Post was back in the circle for the Lady Cards and she pitched all 10 innings giving up one run on seven hits while striking out two batters.

The Lady Cards now faced a win or go home scenario as game three loomed in the distance and both teams were going to do their best.

Game three: Vs. Bishop, L, 11-2 In game three Bishop opened the scoring again with one run in the top of the first inning and the Lady Cards responded in the bottom of the first with two runs to take the lead. Unfortunately, those would be the only runs that the Lady Cards would score in game three.

The Lady Badgers scored two runs in the second and third inning and then scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to end the game with a score of 11-2.

Aggie Rodriguez and Mia Post both hit doubles in game three and Post was once again back in the circle for the Lady Cards. She was joined by Drozd, McKenna Eden and Allie Cranek in the circle and combined to pitch all seven innings giving up 11 runs on nine hits while striking out one batter.

The Lady Cards’ season ended too early in their eyes this season and while the loss stings the Lady Cards will be working diligently to get better and come back next year to try to get back to and past the Regional Finals.
