The Weimar Ladycats finished off their athletic season by spotlighting their athletes that worked for an earned success this season.

The Ladycats did not hand out softball awards just yet because they are still in the midst of their playoff journey at the time of writing.

Starting things off was the Overall Female Fighting Heart Award was awarded to Claire Pavlu and the Overall Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Taylor Smith. These two played multiple sports for the Ladycats this season.

They are both players that their teammates look to when things get rocky or they are in need of some stability. Both Pavlu and Smith have a great ability of being calm in tense situations and the stamp they left on Ladycat athletics is very visible.

Moving into the volleyball team now the MVP award was shared by Chandley Tolbert and Janiyah Cooper. Both of these ladies were top in the district in kills and some of the hardest hitters, they were also great blockers on defense and were a big part of the Ladycats success this season.

The Most Improved player for the Ladycats was Cheyenne Booker, she had a bigger role on the team this year. She played a lot of big minutes and even subbed into games during big moments.

She earned even more of her coaches’ trust this year and it all because of the improvements she made this off season.

The Fighting Heart award for the volleyball team was Madison Luckey was awarded the Fighting Heart award. Luckey was a very reliable player for the volleyball team this year and was always a player her teammates can look up to.

For the basketball team the MVP award was shared between Jaiya Cook and J’Len Conn. Cook was a dominant presence in the paint for the Ladycats this season while Conn was a great facilitating point guard.

The Most Improved player for the Ladycats basketball team was MJ Griffin. She came off the bench for the Ladycats this season, but she played with a ton of pride and intensity.

On top of that she worked on her scoring touch which helped the Ladycats a ton, especially late in the season.

The Fighting Heart award was awarded to Clarie Pavlu, she was the starting point guard for the Ladycats this season and always was always making tough plays. Pavlu is a very gritty basketball player and is always willing to lay it all on the line for the Ladycats.

For the golf team Taylor Smith and Samantha Lichnovsky were selected as the MVPs for the golf team. Smith and Lichnovsky were both a big part of the Ladycats run to State on the golf course and at the State Championship Lichnovsky finished in 3rd place and Smith came in 4th place.

Most Improved player on the golf team was Harley Thornhill, she improved so much as a golfer that she cut her score down by eight strokes at the State Championship tournament. Every golfer knows cutting your score by eight strokes is no easy feat, so Thornhill’s hard work has been paying off.

The Ladycats tennis team saw a lot of success this season as they made it all the way to the Regional Tournament. The MVP of the tennis team for the Ladycats was Chandley Tolbert, she always played with a winner’s mentality and made several big plays this season that helped the team reach the Regional Tournament.

‘ The Most Improved player was Victoria Sherwood, and the Fighting Heart award was awarded to Cheyenne Booker. Sherwood was always tinkering with her game this year trying to find what works best for her and continued to get better and better each tournament this season.

Booker was partnered with Tolbert this season on the tennis court, and she was the perfect partner for Tolbert. They are both fierce competitors, but they also are very comfortable with one another and that causes the duo to play for one another, which has resulted in a lot of success on the tennis court.

The Ladycats crosscountry team selected Aubrey Breska as their MVP, MJ Griffin as their Most Improved runner and the Fighting Heart award went to Katharina Chaloupka. Breska was an amazing leader and runner for the Ladycats this year, always encouraging her teammates while posting strong times of her own.

Cross-country is a physically and mentally demanding sport, the athletes have to two be up early in the morning for practice and run long distances, it’s grueling. But for Griffin to show up consistently this season and never complain all while improving each time she ran speaks volumes to coaches and is why she earned this award.

Chaloupka was another leader on this team for the Ladycats, she was someone that all the runners looked up to. She helped keep things stable even when things were out of their control, she personified what it means to be a Ladycat and was chosen for this award because of it.

Speaking of Chaloupka, she was also chosen as the MVP of the track team along with Addisyn Olive. Chaloupka won the State Championship in the pole Vault event after jumping a height of 12’6” all while being a leader and role model on this team.

Olive was a big part of this team, she brought the energy and was always seen sporting a smile from ear-to-ear, but as soon as she lined up in her assigned lane it was all business for her. She ran each race like it was her last and made sure she met the standard that she set for herself.

Faith Cantwell was selected for the Most Improved award and Ruby Alamilla and Tate Griffin were chosen for the Fighting Heart award. Cantwell improved every single time she touched the track this year and is always pushing herself to be better each day.

MJ Griffin was selected as the Most Improved Player for the Ladycats basketball team.

Alamilla and Tate Griffin showed a lot of guts this season, they pushed themselves past their limits on a couple of occasions. Despite being tired or hurting these two found a way to be there for their team no matter what this season.

For the powerlifting team the MVP selected was Zowie Lee and the Most Improved lifter was Alamilla. Lee led this team all season long and set a personal best for squat, bench and deadlift at the Swamp Strength meet in Rice.

Alamilla increased the amount of weight she lifted this season at every meet. She started the year lifting a total of 605 pounds and she finished lifting a total of 720 pounds.

This officially brings the Ladycats athletic season (outside of softball) to a close, congratulations to all the athletes selected for an award.
