The Columbus Cardinals held their annual Athletic Banquet May 13, and handed out three awards to one boy and one girl.
The awards handed out were the Cardinal Spirit award, the Most Valuable Athlete and the Torch Awards.
The Cardinal Spirit Award is an award given out to the female and male athletes that are team players, have school spirit, take pride in wearing the Cardinal uniform and represents all the morals and values that come with being a Cardinal.
The female recipient of the award was Mia Post, and the male recipient of the award was Aleks Medrano. Post earned this award by always having a smile on her face and being a positive influence on her teammates.
As for Medrano, there cannot be enough good things said about him, he had a huge impact on his teammates and fellow classmates. He always knew how to make people smile and brought positivity both on and off the field. Both of these athletes are and forever will be engrained in Columbus High School culture.
The Most Valuable Athlete award is given to athletes who have gone above and beyond in athletics. The female athlete chosen was Taylor Morrow and the male athlete that was chosen was Camdon Pitchford.
Both of these athletes competed, excelled and led in multiple sports for Columbus this season. Morrow played volleyball, ran track and played softball for Columbus this season and made it to the regional round of the playoffs in all three of those sports.
Pitchford played football, basketball and tennis for Columbus this season and he made it to the State Championship game and the State Tournament in all three sports.
The Torch Award is an award dedicated to coach Greg Lundgren who coached at Columbus High School for 23 years and had unwavering passion for sports. This award is given to a female and male athlete
