VIEWPOINT OF A TEXAS CHALLENGE ACADEMY CADET
When I first was deciding on whether to attend Texas ChalleNGe Academy, I wasn’t too excited about the prospect. I was too busy thinking about all the things I would be missing out on. For me, life’s precious moments were filled with partying, relationships, and living the teenage dream. It didn’t really matter to me that I was undisciplined and failing school.
I filled out the application for my family. I was really hoping I wouldn’t get accepted. But unfortunately, I was accepted. And being accepted has actually been a very fortunate event.
Being at TCA has helped in so many ways. I have become more disciplined and have learned to forgive others and move past difficult situations. I have learned when to be silent and to listen. It hasn’t been all peaches and cream, but it has definitely been an eye-opening experience.
TCA has helped me with sobriety. I have learned I don’t need to take a hit when life becomes frustrating. I have learned to focus, study, and read. I have earned my credits and my diploma. I have started doing artwork again, and I am more physically fit.
Although bay life is tough, it too has taught me how to get along with others and to be patient. So for a girl who wasn’t happy to even come here, I am glad that my application was accepted.
