The offseason is a time for teams to do a little bit of tinkering with their rosters, and that extends to the coaches.
Like players, coaches can transfer schools seeking better opportunities, and it’s no different for Rice and their teams.
This offseason Rice needed to fill four coaching positions, and the good news is they are now officially filled. The first spot filled was for the Girls Coordinator and Head Volleyball Coach and Morgan Hunter was selected for the job.
Hunter is a former student at Rice Consolidated High School and said she is excited to return. She said Rice helped shape her into the woman she is today and is looking forward to doing the same for the players she will coach.
Next up Larissa Manciaz who was hired to coach cross-country, track, strength and conditioning and assistant coach for basketball. Manciaz is another former student at Rice Consolidated, and she said she is looking forward to giving back to the school that helped pave her future.
Daniel Zapeda was the third coach Rice hired this offseason, and he will be an assistant coach for cross-country and a coach for track, junior high football and junior high basketball. Zapeda is yet another former student at Rice, and he said he continued running cross-country and track when he left Rice and can’t wait to share his experience and knowledge with the next wave of student athletes.
Last but certainly not least is Noel Lopez who will be the head softball coach, assistant volleyball coach and assistant basketball coach. Lopez is not a former Rice student, but he brings with him 30 years of coaching knowledge and experiences that he is eager to share with the athletes at Rice Consolidated High School.
The off season is an exciting time but it will be more exciting when these coaches get a chance to sink their teeth into the season next Fall semester.
