Hello, everyone and welcome to the Huddle where today we are talking Weimar softball and some of the changes that are coming their way.
There are two big ones that I will be talking about in this Huddle so enough stalling and let’s jump right into it.
Coaching change It’s no secret that Roger Maupin has decided to call it a career as the bench boss of the Weimar Ladycats softball team. His resume speaks for itself, close to 1,000 wins and five State Championships during his time at Weimar.
So, there is no way to just “replace” that guy and what he brings to the table as a veteran coach. The best thing for Weimar fans to do with this coaching situation is to just be open to change.
Regardless of if the new coach comes in and completely changes the systems Maupin was running or not, this team is going to look noticeably different next season. That sounds like it’s a bad thing too and it really isn’t, it’s actually exciting.
For so long everyone knew what the Ladycats softball team was going to be with Maupin at the helm. Now there is an opportunity for someone else to come in and try to take a crack at leading this program.
That’s not to say Maupin was doing a bad job and it’s a good thing he left, I am just saying for the first time in 24 years we have no idea what to expect from this team and that is exciting in the world of sports.
Their ace graduated Some more excitement because I have worked here for two years now and I have only seen Taylor Smith pitch for the Ladycats in those two years. That’s not a complaint either, she is so fun to watch and will do great things at the next level. There is no debate about that.
The thing is though; I have no idea what the Ladycats defense is going to look like now. Usually, it was routine ground balls and pop flies because Smith was so dominate in the circle and made life easy for the defense behind her.
But this is exciting because it’s almost like the spot is up for grabs just waiting for someone on the team to come and take it. There’s nothing better than internal competition while on teams. It’s good for players because they get to push each other and it’s good for coaches because they get to see how much their players are willing to push themselves to win.
It will be exciting to see which Ladycat steps up and take it this season because they have a very talented roster and all they need is an opportunity to show their stuff.
We have a long time between now and then though but come springtime next year all eyes will be on Weimar as they enter a new chapter of Ladycat softball.
