The Rice 8u All-Star baseball team competed int he Hempstead tournament which was the first of the season.

Rice played seven games against some study competition and ended up with a 4-3 record in those seven games.

In game one Rice took on Bellville and lost the game 4-3, it’s game one so a loss is nothing to feel bad about. Especially considering Rice just two runs away from defeating the eventual tournament champions.

They followed that up with a huge win in game two, and it was a huge win for a couple of reasons. The most obvious being that they got back in the win column but also it was a huge win looking at the scoreboard.

Rice scored 18 runs while their defense held Washington County- White to three runs in game two. The win gave this team a little bit of a confidence boost but unfortunately another one run loss was on the horizon.

Grimes County defeated Rice by a score of 8-7 to give Rice their second loss of the tournament. This loss seemingly sparked Rice though as they went on to win the next three games.

They took on Washington County-White again and handed them another loss by a score of 175. They carried that momentum over into their next game against Hempstead and won that game by a score of 15-4.

They matched up with Sealy next where Rice won the game 17-11 thwarting off a comeback attempt by Sealy. With the offense humming Rice seemed unstoppable and set their sights on their last game against Washington County- Green. Rice would unfortunately be on the short end of the stick in this game, and they were handed their third loss of the tournament.

Rice played hard until the very end and offered fans of the Rice Raiders’ baseball team a glimpse into the future.
