Weimar’s Walk Across Texas a stunning success

Weimar’s Walk Across Texas teams logged a staggering 20,624.62 miles in eight weeks this year.

Friends of the Weimar Public Library sponsors the Walk Across Texas program to promote physical activity and a healthier lifestyle. Beginning with only four teams initially the program grew to 13 teams this year.

Competition is fierce and fun! This year’s winning teams were: Fayette Savings Bank, 1st place with a total of 3418.78 miles logged; Miller Creek Milers in 2nd place, logging 2852.96 miles logged; and Flying Cowgirls in 3rd place with 2261.96 miles logged.

Other teams participating were: Sole Sisters and Michael, Fayette Memorial Funeral Home Last Responders, The United Uteri, The Story Strollers, Walk Forrest Walk, The Delivery Divas, Thunder Swords, Thunder Swords 2, Top Dollar Steppers, and Columbus Oaks.

The Walk Across Texas Program “has been recognized for its measurable impact on reducing chronic disease risk and healthcare costs, with an estimated lifetime economic benefit of $119.5 million for participants in 2024 alone,” according to the Walk Across Texas website. The Weimar program highlights a fun, competitive way to get back into the exercise mode.

WAT is an eight-week community program delivered through a web-based platform to help establish the habit of regular physical activity. While participants log their individual daily achievements, they are able to see the progress of competing teams on a day-to-day basis, increasing not only the fun of working as a team, but also the competitiveness of logging the most miles each day.
