Hello, everyone and welcome back to the Huddle where this week we will be discussing Rice Raider football.
The Rice Raiders football team has released their schedule for the upcoming 2025 football season. While this is Texas and everyone loves the start of football season, let’s take a deeper dive into Raiders’ football.
Specifically at the start of the year where they have some pretty challenging opponents to match up against. Week one the Raiders are taking on East Chambers, week two they travel to Shiner, week three they return home to face Weimar and then week four they hit the road again and take on Hallettsville.
Couple that with the fact that the Raiders lost a ton of seniors, and it makes for a very interesting start to the season. Now this is not to say that Rice lost a bunch of seniors and now that it cannot compete with these schools but last season, they started the season off with four shutouts and that was largely thanks to the defense that was led by mostly seniors.
So offensively, I think the Raiders are going to be just fine because the quarterback, running back and most of the receivers are returning. Defensively their entire defensive line was pretty much made up of graduating
seniors. So, there is a major hole in the defensive line which was one of the Raiders’ strengths last season. They were big, mean, strong and did a heck of a job stuffing runs that came up through the middle of the line.
But now they have graduated and that opens up an opportunity to usher in a new era of Raider football. These kids are hungry to show their skills as well. They have been waiting patiently for their opportunity and now they have it.
The Raiders pipeline is full of young and talented athletes just looking for an opportunity to prove themselves. That’s not to say these kids will come in an automatically look like prime Lawrance Taylor on the defensive line for the Raiders. There will definitely be some growing pains this season.
While there will be growing pains, there is no doubt in my mind that these athletes will figure it out at some point this season. The Raiders always play with passion and grit, and their athletes carry those traits with them in whatever they are doing in life. So, Raider football fans grab your popcorn; the show is about to start.
Thank you all so much for reading the Huddle, I will see you all next time.
