Columbus Junior Little League posts 2-2 record

The Columbus Junior All-Stars competed in the Schulenburg tournament recently, and they came away with a 2-2 record.

They took on the likes of Washington County, Rice and Bellville with their last game being another match against Washington County.

@ Washington County, L, 2-1

In game one Columbus took on Washington County, and it was a very tightly contested game. All runs were scored in the second inning and as the score reflects Columbus scored one run in the top of the second while Washington County scored twice in the bottom of the second.

It was a tough loss especially at the beginning of the tournament, but it was only game one and Columbus still had something to prove.

Vs. Rice, W, 10-0

After losing game one by only one run Columbus’ offense came into game two with a bit of a chip on their shoulder. They wasted no time getting a early lead as they scored four runs in the first inning to hold a 4-0 lead.

They scored one run in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth inning to reach a 10-0 final score.

Brazos Blount hit the only double in the game and also spent some time on the bump for Columbus along with Reid Stewart, Ayden Luna and Demetrius Wilbert. They combined to pitch all five innings and struck out seven batters.

Columbus had tasted victory for the first time this tournament and looked to keep their winning ways going strong in game three.

@ Bellville, W, 16-1

In game three Columbus was actually trailing 1-0 by the end of the second inning. They came into the third inning though and unleashed the full might of Columbus’ offense.

They scored 10 runs in the third inning and followed that up with six more in the fourth inning for a total of 16. During that time Charles Braten hit a double, Slade Cejka hit a triple, and Demetrius Wilbert hit a home run.

Caden Hill and Ayden Luna were on the bump for Columbus, and they pitched all four innings and struck out two batters.

This brought them to their final game where they faced off with Washington County for the second time.

Vs. Washington County, L, 9-8 Just like their first meeting Columbus and Washington County ended their game with a difference of one run on the scoreboard. In this game it was Columbus that jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Washington County scored once in the fourth inning to cut into the lead, but Columbus scored three more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 7-1. Washington came back in the sixth inning and scored six runs to tie the game at 7-7 before Columbus broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth to carry an 8-7 lead into the seventh inning.

Washington County scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning, and Columbus was shutout in the seventh inning to end the game.

It was a tough loss that ended their season but rest assured Columbus fans these young men will be back next season, and they will be making a big splash at tournaments.
