The Columbus Major All-Star baseball team captured the District 13 Championship after posting a 5-1 record at a recent tournament.

Two of those five wins came from the championship series which was a best of three games series against Bellville.

@ Bellville, W, 6-5

In game one of the series Columbus jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over Bellville. They extended their lead in the fourth inning when they scored two more runs to make the score 4-0.

Bellville scored one run in the bottom of the fourth to cut Columbus’ lead, but Columbus extended their lead by one in the fifth to carry a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning. Bellville scored four runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5-5, but Columbus scored once more in the sixth inning to win the game 6-5.

Carson Berger hit the only double for Columbus in game one while Jace Tribe, Kase Johns and Jett Luedecke were on the mound. They pitched all six innings and struck out eight batters during that time.

With one win under their belt Columbus was now only one win away from winning the District 13 Championship.

@ Bellville, W, 8-5

In game two it was actually Columbus that was trailing on the scoreboard, and it was Bellville that jumped out to an early 4-0 lead by the end of the third inning. Columbus then scored two runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to win the game 8-5.

Jett Luedecke and James Busselman hit doubles in game two, and Busselman along with Rhett Rosenbaum were on the bump for Columbus. They pitched all six innings and struck out three batters.

The championship victory comes with its fair share of perks, the most important being that Columbus keeps their season alive.

They will be back in action later this week as they begin to play in the Sectional bracket in Lufkin.
