A Columbus mother and her two daughters avoided the worst as they miraculously suffered only minor injuries in a dangerous accident that occurred in El Campo last Tuesday morning, June 24.

Teresa Tello and her two daughters, eldest Natalie Tello and youngest Liliana Tello, were lucky to not have suffered any life-threatening injuries after their car burst into flames following the close call accident.

Columbus Volunteer Firefighter Leonard Tello, Teresa’s husband, rushed to the scene of the accident and recounted his conversation with Wharton County law enforcement and EMS personnel, who stated that the other driver, an unidentified woman, was at fault for the collision, failing to stop when she should have.

Leonard says he received a phone call while at work and felt his adrenaline kick in immediately, unsure of what he would arrive to see after hearing the unnerving news. Being a first responder himself, he wasn’t concerned over whose fault the accident was, but rather whether everyone involved was alright.

“I’m trying to get there but everything is moving slow for me,” said Leonard Tello. “The anxiety was getting to me, and it seemed like a long, long drive just trying to get there. Being a first responder, I don’t take sides. I’m just glad that everybody made it out, and that the other party is okay.”

Despite the severity of the accident and the destruction done to both vehicles, both parties involved were only treated for minor injuries.
