The Weimar Minor All-Star baseball team took on Hempstead and Bellville Minor All-Stars and ended up splitting those games.
Splitting basically means that they won one of those games but lost the other, so let’s jump into it.
@ Hempstead, W, 7-5
In game one, Weimar actually found themselves in a 5-0 hole by the end of the second inning. Hempstead jumped out to a early 5-0 lead in the second inning, but Weimar locked down the field after then and their offense took over.
Weimar tied the game in the third inning when they scored five runs to make the score 5-5 going into the fifth inning. They scored one run in the fourth and fifth inning to get to the finals score of 7-5.
Weimar showed just how gritty and mentally tough this team is because a 5-0 deficiency is enough to suck the wind out of any team’s sails. But Weimar never gave up and continued to be aggressive, and it paid off as they were able to work themselves back in and win this game.
The win also gave the team a necessary confidence boost that they wanted to carry into their next game against Bellville.
Vs. Bellville, L, 10-9
In game two it was a very tightly contested game, and the first inning was reflective of that as each team scored three runs to have a 3-3 score at the end of one inning. Bellville scored two more runs in the second inning to take a 5-3 lead into the third inning.
Weimar responded by taking the lead back when they scored three runs to take a 6-5 lead into the fourth inning. Weimar extended their lead in the fourth inning by three more runs and now held a 9-5 lead going into the fifth.
Bellville came storming back in the fourth and scored four runs to tie the game up at 9-9. Bellville then scored the final run of the game in the top of the fifth inning to win the game 10-9.
It was a tough loss, but Weimar fought all the way until the very end and will be back next year looking to pick up even more wins.
