The Columbus Junior All-Star softball team traveled to Elgin to compete in the Sectional Tournament.
They played the Smithville Junior All-Star softball team and came away with a win in both games to win the Sectional Tournament.

Columbus started the game by jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and followed that up with 11 runs in the second inning and then seven more in the third inning.
Offensively Chloe Grahmann and Paelyn Etzler both hit doubles and combined for five of the 18 recorded RBIs. On top of that every player that stepped into the batter’s box recorded a hit for Columbus which added to the impressive offensive game.
Etzler and Berkley Anderson were in the circle for Columbus, and they pitched all four innings. They gave up zero runs on zero hits while striking out 10 batters on their way to victory.
Columbus was now only one win away from capturing the Sectional Championship, and they were going to do everything in their power to make sure they won.

Game two mirrored game one because Columbus shutout Smithville for the second time in two games. Columbus scored once in the first inning, four runs in the second, one run in the third, seven runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth to win the Sectional Tournament.

Andie Melnar, Berkley Anderson and Kaylea McCarthy all hit doubles while Cambry Barten, Lucy Schobel and Taitlyn Mican all hit triples on their way to a win. Anderson and Etzler were back in the circle, and they pitched all five innings giving up zero runs on zero hits again and striking out 11 batters.
Winning the sectional tournament means the Columbus Junior All-Star softball team keeps their season alive and will be back in action on Friday, July 11, at the Diamonds at Daily Park in Rosenberg.
