The Rice Raiders recently released their schedule and with all of the excitement starting to swirl it is time to take a look at the Raiders offense this upcoming season.
Last season, the Raiders posted a 7-4 overall record and a 3-3 record in district play.
Now, last season there was a lot of hype surrounding the Raiders defense and for good reason. They had only given up one touchdown through four games, so there was a good reason to be excited about that group.
But offensively there were a lot of positives as well. The first and most obvious being that it was another strong year where we got to see progression from Kor’Dae Johnson.
Now entering his junior season, he continues to impress with his maturity and poise under center. While Johnson will look to take another step in his development as a quarterback, his job got a little bit tougher in 2025.
Looking at Johnson’s top targets last season, two names stuck out and they were D’Neriyan Fuller and Jon Woods, both of which were seniors in 2024. Now this isn’t detrimental in the full sense of the word, but it does make things hard because receivers who can catch 50+ passes and rack up over 600-700 yards in a season don’t grow on trees.
That’s not a dig at any of the players looking to fill those roles in the 2025 season either. There’s no doubt that someone will step up to fill that role, but it’ll be interesting to see who.
As mentioned in last week’s story about the Raiders and their football team, there is so much talent in the Raiders pipeline that they are bound to find someone who can provide the same level of production. Even if that means changing a few things within the offense to ensure success.
As the season begins all eyes will be on the Raiders offense as they try to make it back to the playoffs for the second time in two years.
