Beamer’s adventures

A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses

This column is dedicated to acknowledging examples of “positives” that express the community spirit of Columbus — our town.

Columbus has enjoyed Hound Song Brewery for several years. When one passes and notices guests seated in the portico, it gives a cheerful feeling. The article this week occurred with a setting involving Hound Song. Recently, as Bob and I returned from our lodge north of La Grange, we received an important telephone call. The caller began her conversation by asking questions about a dog. It took only a moment for Bob to acknowledge that the dog described was our beloved Golden Retriever, Beamer. He had a tag showing that he was a Columbus dog.

The kind woman explained that the dog had come to Hound Song searching for security during a thunderstorm. The lady friend, Angie Dungen, had already taken him to our home 2 blocks away on Spring St. No one had answered the doorbell, thus she was back at Hound Song making the call. It did not take Bob long to ask that Beamer go back home once more and be put in the screened in enclosed summer room. Once we were home, Bob and Beamer took a little gift to Angie and thanked her for her kindness.

This past weekend, we journeyed to Abilene and Albany, Texas to see the 87th edition of the Albany Fandangle. What a delight. The road home was hot and long. About the time we enjoyed a Dairy Queen break in Eden, Texas, Bob answered a call from Columbus. I guess you could say “same song, second verse”. As embarrassing as it could be, another Columbusite, Addy Jo Hasted, was calling from Hound Song to let us know that the Beamer had arrived at the brewery. Bob confirmed that Columbus had experienced another thunderstorm. I’m sure it eased Bob’s conscience to state the Beamer’s excuse. Addy Jo, and her friend, Hali Sablatura, walked him back to the summer room, put him inside, and closed the doors.

It’s really important to know that you can count on friends to watch out for your pets and other prize possessions, of course. Cheers to Hound Song... Travis, Raven, Shells, and Clark
