The Columbus Major baseball All-Star team punched their ticket to the State Tournament after they defeated Lufkin.
They defeated Lufkin in back-to-back games to win the Sectional Tournament and earn themselves a spot in the State Tournament.

In the first game against Lufkin, Columbus opened the scoring in the top of the second inning where they scored one run. Lufkin quickly tied the game at 1-1 when they scored one run in the bottom of the third.
Lufkin added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead into the fifth inning. Columbus responded by scoring one run in the fifth to cut into Lufkin’s lead and then tied the game back up at 3-3 in the sixth inning.
Columbus then retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning where they scored two runs to make it a 5-3 score. Lufkin scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Columbus’ defense did not let the comeback effort from Lufkin go any further and ended the game shortly after.
Cormac Barten hit the only double for Columbus during the victory while Braysen Abke and Jace Tribe were on the bump. They pitched all seven innings giving up only four runs on 11 hits while striking out two batters.
Columbus was flying high after their first victory and sat only one win away from going to the State Tournament.

In game two of the series, it was a very competitive game just like game one that saw Columbus come away with the win. Just like in game one too, Columbus jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the third inning.
Just like in game one year again, Lufkin tied the game up one inning later but this time it was in the bottom of the fourth. Columbus came back and scored two runs in the fifth and followed that up by scoring two runs in the sixth.
Lufkin once again made a comeback that saw them score two runs to cut into Columbus’ lead, but it was not enough as Columbus ended the game shortly after.
Braysen Abke hit the only double for Columbus in game two while Jett Luedecke hit the only triple for the team. Nico Morales and Rhett Rosenbaum were on the bump for Columbus, and they combined to pitch all six innings giving up only four runs in nine innings where they recorded six strikeouts.
These wins earned Columbus a spot in the State Tournament where they will look to add one more trophy to their trophy case this summer.
