Doreen and Dale Alexander, owners of God’s Corner Store, transported donated relief supplies from over a hundred community members to Kerrville and nearby cities for flood relief, Friday, July 11.

The Alexanders delivered donated cleaning supplies, horse tack, bottled water and other supplies to Kerrville, Hunt and Ingram in Kerr County. A historic and devastating flood of the Guadalupe River ravaged the county for three days starting July 4 and left hundreds displaced. The Alexanders coordinated with recipients in the towns, including Katie Cain at Camp La Junta, a boys’ summer camp located north of Camp Mystic in Hunt. Dale Alexander said over a hundred people donated, including the local Walmart.

“We’ve had a number of local citizens really help us tremendously,” he said.

The Alexanders also brought along Dale’s service dog, Liberty, to assist Dale and the emotional needs of the survivors. Doreen Alexander said they intend to keep making trips until all needs are met. The Alexanders transformed Doreen’s bridal shop into God’s Corner Store to provide disaster and emergency relief in 2017 following Hurricane Harvey.

“We try to service everybody we can for disasters.

We’ve had a number of hurricanes. We’ve taken stuff all the way from Arizona, New Mexico, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma and all over Texas – and Arkansas. That’s basical ly what we’re here [for],” Dale Alexander said.

All of those who work at the store are volunteers, and the store runs on donations. The corner store resells clothes, trinkets, home décor and many other miscellaneous items. Any profits that the store makes goes to the Ministerial Alliance of Columbus, a collection of local churches, and their emergency relief fund. Doreen Alexander said God motivates them.

“God putting it on us to help people and being his servants, hand and feet. That’s what’s we are,” Doreen Alexander said.

God’s Corner Store is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The store is located near the Colorado County Courthouse at 1010 Milam St.
