A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses
This column is dedicated to acknowledge examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus — our town.
When asked about her childhood, Lori An told a very interesting story. Her parents were going to school to be a doctor and a nurse. Lori An began each day with a 5 X 7 card giving her instructions for the morning. The instructions listed her tasks to be accomplished. She learned early on to do her jobs before going to school. Later in life, her dad would take her and the boys (2 brothers) to the junk yard to find three “same” cars. After the cars were chosen, they pulled all the good parts from each car to make one “perfect” car. Later, when both sets of grandparents were living with the family, she became the cook. Even though this sounds as if Lori An had a tough beginning, she had the privilege of being a debutante and was presented in New York.
When husband, Rob, and Lori An moved to Columbus, she was appointed to Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau (*CCVB) by Buddy Rau and served from 2001 to 2008. Other service to the community includes: *Pilot Club – 2000 – 2018; *Higher Ground – 2001 – current; *Governor Pilot 2008 – 2009; *LOAC President/Board 2005 – 2011; *CCIDC President/ Treasurer – 2004 – 2018; *City Council June 2014 – August 2018; *Texas Women’s League 2017 – 2020; *Mayor of Columbus 2018 – current; *A Better Columbus 2021 – current. Perhaps the greatest accomplishments for the city have been the drainage and sidewalk projects.
Rob and Lori An have one daughter, Julie Ana, who is attending Texas A&M - majoring in nursing. She was her class valedictorian and a cheerleader.
Lori An happens to be an accomplished photographer. Bob and I were honored 2 Christmases ago with a photograph of our home which we proudly display in our dining room – see photo.
