Stafford Opera House contract okayed by tour The board of directors of the Magnolia Homes Tour, Inc. Has let the contract on another phase of the restoration of the Stafford Bank and Opera House.

The second part of Phase I, the refurbishing of the exterior, will be done by the Allstate Restoration of Houston at an estimated cost of $90,000.

Council begins consideration of $208,471 budget

The city council Monday night began consideration of a 1975-76 budget, balanced on anticipated revenues of $208,280 and plan expenditures of $208,471.

Revenues are expected to hold about steady with 1974-75, but expenditures will show about a 9 percent drop to balance the budget and end 2 years of deficit spending.

Lee and Walker in runoff for sheriff Runoff campaigns that will end Aug. 26 got underway for sheriff, for state representative of Austin and Colorado counties and for constable for Precinct 5 as a result of last Saturday’s Democratic primary election.

Harvey Lee and J.O. Walker are in the runoff for sheriff; Fritz Englehard and Franz W. Zeiske for representative; and Harry Ladewig and E.J. Barten for constable of Precinct 5.

Public to be given chance to see 1951 county budget Commissioners court will consider the county’s budget before the public Aug. 25, members decided at a special meeting Monday in the country court room.

All commissioners and Judge John Rancher were present when they set the budget hearing, authorized advertisements seeking bids on different projects or items.
