The Columbus Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved to increase wages for staff members by 5% for the 2025-2026 compensation plan. The action was taken during a general meeting July 15. In June, the Texas legislature passed House Bill 2. This legislation was designed to allocate money to support Texas’ education programs. Four billion of these funds were to be dedicated to increasing educator wages. With this aid from the state government, the CISD’s Board of Trustees has declared a 5% wage increase for all staff members in the district. Board Vice President Bo Schobel went on to confirm the staff increases.
“With all the staff members they got a 5% increase,” Schobel said.
The 2025-2026 compensation plan is expected to see CISD educators at 1-2 years of service receive two thousand increases, 3-4 years receive a four thousand increase and 5 plus years receive an eight thousand increase in salary. This was to aid with teacher retentions with the total estimated educator salaries to be $788,000.
Educational support also would receive a 5% increase.
“Because they do not fall under the teacher retrenchment allotment, we had to make a separate pay scale for these members,” said Director of Human Resources Amber Berger.
These positions would include nurses, instructional facilitators, speech assistants, librarians or anyone else that uses a teacher’s pay scale but does not fall under the allotment. The educational support staff saw an $8800 total increase. Non-administrative staff likewise received a 5% increase.
“These also can be funded by support staff allotments,” Berger said.
Non- administ rat ive staff is comprised of bus drivers, councilors, maintenance, and administrative support staff. The total projected increase was $117,000 for these staff members. However, there was no new funding for administrative staff provided by House Bill 2. Despite this, the administrators are also seeing a 5% increase.
“Just trying to help maintain some equity,” Berger said.
This increase was estimated to be $97,000. All the pay raises were set to be in effect for the 20252026 school year. As such all-staff members can expect their increases going into the new school year.
