Dave Campbell’s places Rice Raiders in top 25

After making it back to the playoffs for the first time in four years, Rice Consolidated found themselves on Dave Campbell’s top 25 rankings.

Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football recently released their preseason rankings for the Class 3A divisions 1 and 2.

The Rice Raiders made this list coming in the 25th spot in the division 2 rankings. This does take into account the large graduating class that the Raiders lost this past year to graduation.

They noted that Kordae Johnson will be back for his third year as a starter for the Raiders, and he will be looking to lead this team back to the playoffs. Last season the Raiders posted a 7-4 overall record and a 3-3 district record to make the playoffs but lost in the Bi-District round to Lexington by a score of 38-27.

The good news is that Texas High School Football has the Raiders finishing in 4th place in the district and returning to the playoffs.

Offensively, the Raiders will have plenty of talent with Johnson leading the way along with Robert Bennett, AJ Jenkins, Isaiah Castillo, Miguel Marquez, Gabe Barrios and Glen Mills.

These seven players were a huge part of last season’s success and will be looking to take on a larger role within the offense in 2025 and make a deeper run in the playoffs.

The Raiders will have a difficult time replacing players on defense though as they lost most of their defensive line to graduation. Rest assured though, Raider fans as head coach Brad Dumont and his staff have been working with their players all summer and are confident in their group.

The Raiders are set to start the season on Friday, August 29, when they welcome in East Chambers for their home opener.
