Record school budget voted The Columbus school board Tuesday night approved a record budget for the 1975-76 school year which anticipates expenditures of more than $1.36 million, up 16 percent over a year ago.
The budget forecasts expenditures of $1,233,931 for general operations of the three schools and expenditures of $141,700 for principal and interest on the school debt.
Charge two in jewelry caper
Chief of Police Ed Potter announced this week the arrest in Houston of two suspects in the Aug. 5 burglary of Windham’s Jewelry Store here.
Potter identified the suspects of Sam Henry Hubert, 27, and Eddie B. Collins, 27, both of Houston. They were turned to Colorado County Tuesday and held in lieu of $10,000 bond each.

Doubt expressed new building will be ready Columbus schools will open Sept. 11; it was decided at a meeting of the school board in the Columbus State Bank Tuesday afternoon.
Supt. Marley Giddens said one wing of the new school building may be completed in time for first and second graders to use new classrooms, but it is doubtful.
Sheridan Lions considering town’s incorporation Sheridan Lions club is investigating the possibilities of incorporation for their town after hearing J.F. Walker of Weimar explain incorporation at the regular meeting in the Sheridan school cafeteria Monday night.

Highway to be hard surfaced Division State Engineer, Capt. A. Schlafli of La Grange was int he city last Friday in company with Senator Gus Russek, in conference with County Judge E.B. Mayes, arranging details for taking steps necessary to have the highway through Colorado County tarviated.
Local men secure Hudson-Essex agency F.A. Miekow, proprietor of the Live Oak Filling Station, and Henry Hurr, Jr. Have closed a deal with Alex Clark Motor Car Co., of Houston, distributors, whereby they secure the agency in this territory for the Hudson and Essex automobiles.

We pay $900 a bale for cotton Mr. B Fish, manager of the Curro Hosiery Manufacturing company, was here last Thursday and exhibited a lot of samples of his work, including seven different kinds of socks and stockings.
