Sheriff’s Report
SUNDAY, MAY 11
At approximately 4:01 a.m., deputy Blair was driving westbound on IH-10, near mile marker 699, when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. He then conducted a traffic stop. Upon further investigation, Garcia Banegas, age 21, of San Marcos, Tx, was arrested for TXPC49.04, driving while intoxicated, Class B Misdemeanor. Case cleared by arrest.
At approximately 8:14 a.m., deputy Blair initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speed over the limit on State Highway 71 and Marek Road, North of Columbus, Tx. After investigation, Javier Guerra was issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia. Case cleared by issuance of citation.
At approximately 12:40 a.m., deputy Thomas and deputies were dispatched to the 300 blk of Main Street, Garwood, Tx, for a disturbance. An investigation was conducted and determined no crime was committed. A report was generated for information purposes only.
At approximately 8:53 p.m., deputy Chapa was dispatched to the 1400 blk of Ehlinger Road, Fayetteville, for a motor vehicle accident. After further investigation enough information was gathered to make a report. Case cleared.
MONDAY, MAY 12
At approximately 9:08 a.m., deputy Leihardt was dispatched to 5800 Main Street in Sheridan in reference to a possible terroristic threat. Information was gathered and a warrant issued for damaged property.
At approximately 5:55 p.m., deputy Smith was dispatched to the 1200 block of Walnut in reference to a missing person. Complainant reported her son had been missing since Friday, May 9, 2025. The complainant called back several hours later and reported that she has made contact with the son and the son is okay. Case cleared.
At approximately 10:12 p.m., deputy Smith was dispatched to Center Street in Alleyton in reference to a mental subject. The subject was transported to a mental hospital for treatment. The case is cleared.
TUESDAY, MAY 13
At approximately 7:18 a.m., deputy Schoppe was dispatched to 3787 County Road 106, Rock Island, in reference to a criminal trespass. Upon investigation, a report was completed for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft greater than or equal to $2,500 but less than $30,000, criminal trespass and criminal mischief (causing substantial inconvenience). The suspect was transported to a mental health facility for evaluation. After further review, it was decided to send this case to the County Attorney’s Office for further review and possible indictment on the following charges: Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Theft greater than or equal to $2,500 but less than $30,000 and Criminal Trespass of a Habituation.
At approximately 5:40 p.m., deputy Johnson conducted a traffic stop at FM 333 and SH 71 in Garwood. After further investigation, he identified the driver as Rafael Herrera Hernandez, 45, out of Sheridan, Tx. He had a warrant out of Wharton County for Manufacture Delivery of a controlled subsanc PG 1. Rafael was arrested and taken to the Colorado County Jail without further incident. Case cleared by adult arrest.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 14
At approximately 3:04 p.m., deputy Gorman conducted a warrant service in the 5800 block of W Four ½ Street, Sheridan, Tx. After further investigation, Russell Nelson, age 35, of Rock Island, Tx, was arrested for an out of county Felony warrant. Case cleared by adult arrest. THURSDAY, MAY 15 At approximately 12:43 p.m., deputy Lopez was dispatched to 3586 CR 106 Rock Island in reference to a theft.
At approximately 3:09 p.m., deputy Lopez observed a civil matter property crime at 2286 Niles Street, Rock Island, Tx. The property owner corrected the issue of concern. The case is cleared.
At approximately 9:13 p.m., deputy Chapa was dispatched to the area of Highway 71 East for a reckless diver. Colorado County Deputies assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety in a driving while intoxicated investigation. case agency assist.
FRIDAY, MAY 16
At approximately 6:54 p.m. deputy Frey was dispatched to the area of 686687 mile marker interstate 10 weiner Texas and reference to a welfare concern. Dispatch advised the caller stated the subject was failing to stay in a single lane on his bicycle. Upon contact with the subject he began to elude and resist. Arimendi, Caesar, was arrested for Resisting Arrest Search or Transport, Misdemeanor A and Fleeing/ Eluding, Misdemeanor B. Case cleared by adult arrest.
SATURDAY MAY 17TH
At approximately 1:27 a.m. deputy Frey was advised by Colorado County sheriff’s office dispatch that Austin County was in pursuit of a vehicle on interstate 10 heading westbound into our county. Colorado County sheriff’s deputies assisted with the pursuit of the vehicle, which crashed after losing control at the FM 2434 exit. The driver of the vehicle was arrested, and custody was transferred to the Austin County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 11:18 a.m. deputy Canut, was dispatched to the 5800 block of Main Street Sheridan Texas in regards to property damage. Information received and report taken.
At approximately 6:05 p.m. deputy Johnson was dispatched to the 1300 block of Kansteiner Road Columbus Texas in reference to an abandoned vehicle. After an investigation, the vehicle was towed due to it being part in abandoned in the roadway.
At approximately 6:36 p.m. deputy Frey was dispatched to the 200 block of Nellie Street Garwood Texas in reference to an assault. The case is active pending issuance of a warrant for the suspect, Jajuan Schreck, age 26, of Garwood, Texas. On May 30th, 2025, Shrek was arrested. The case is cleared by adult arrest.
At approximately 7:47 p.m. deputy Johnson was dispatched to the 6700 block of US highway 90, Sealy, Texas in reference to a mental subject. After an investigation, Texana believes this subject to be safe and released with his friends on a safety plan. Case cleared by information only.
At approximately 11:34 p.m. deputy Frey was dispatched to the 1100 block Street Columbus Texas in reference to a shooting that had occurred. The investigation is being handled by the Columbus Police department. Further investigation to follow.
TUESDAY, MAY 20
Deputy Mican met with a complainant at the sheriff’s office in reference to a theft that occurred in the 3300 block of County Road 106, Rock Island, Texas. The complainant stated an unknown subject took to scaffolding outriggers. Case pending.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. deputy Blair responded to a fire involving machinery dispatch to the Columbus volunteer fire department at the Schindler ranch, located on G Miller Road, Colorado County Texas. Case is cleared by the report.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 21
At approximately 12:46 a.m. deputy Navarro was dispatched to the Colorado County sheriff’s office in reference to a wanted subject. After further investigation, Joyce Wilson, age 31, of Columbus, Texas, was taken into custody for a local Misdemeanor warrant. Case cleared by adult arrest.
At approximately 4:50 a.m. deputy Leihardt was dispatched to a structure fire in the 1000 block of county road 150 Columbus Texas. An information report was taken.
At approximately 9:06 a.m. deputy Leihardt was dispatched to Henneke road in the Bernardo area in reference to an abandoned vehicle. An abandoned motorcycle was recovered after further investigation. Case closed.
At approximately 12:49 p.m. deputy Lopez was contacted by a mental patient on his County cell phone. The subject informed him they were having a mental health crisis. The subject was then transferred to a psychiatric facility for treatment.
At approximately 5:38 p.m. deputy Johnson was dispatched to the 1400 block of US 90A in Sheridan in reference to a theft. After an investigation, a report was taken. Shortly after property was returned. Case cleared by information.
At approximately 7:54 p.m. deputy Gorman while patrolling County Road 151 near County Road 105, she initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. After further investigation, Matilda Luna, age 48, and Jesse Rivera age 39, both of Columbus, Texas, were arrested for possession of controlled substance penalty group 1< 1G - State Jail Felony. Case cleared by adult arrest.
At approximately 10:38 p.m. deputy Smith was dispatched to 1583 County Road 151 in Columbus Texas regarding a criminal trespass. Upon further investigation, the property owner wanted a criminal trespass warning issued to the suspect. The suspect was issued a criminal trespass warning, and the case was cleared.
