The Weimar Wildcats are back on the field this week doing two-a-day practices to prepare for the season.
Like the other schools in Colorado County the Wildcats made the playoffs in 2024 and just becasue they changed their head coach it does not change the fact that they want to get back in the playoffs in 2025.
Now, two-a-day practices are tough for the athletes becasue they are trainging either on the field or in the weight room twice a day for the next couple of weeks. For starters it’s hot outside, no one wants to work in the heat so to combat this, the Wildcats have been out on the field bright and early before the sun is up, playing football.
Some would say the kids would bellyache more becasue they have to get early but another way of looking at it is it’s teaching them discipline. Sigining up and committing to something requires a lot of sacrifices and this is no different.
It send a message to the kids that says, if you want to play you need to get up in the morning and come do the work with the team or you probably won’t play. It teaches these young men that if they want something they have to fully commit to it and be disciplined enough to get it done.
It’s a life skill that these athletes will carry with them forever and is one of the many reasons sports and practices like these are good for kids.
The Wildcats were also not practing with pads on quite yet but like the other schools in Colorado County it serves to benefit the team. With a new coach he may have new systems that he is implementing and this helps slow the practice down and teach his players exactly what he is looking for.
The Wildcats are set to kickoff the season on Friday, August 29, when they take on Boling for game one of the season.
