The fall months are quickly approaching the Rice Raiders have begin practicing to prepare for game one in a few short weeks.
The Raiders made the playoffs last season and despite losing a lot of talented seniors they have a goal of making it back to the playoffs in 2025.
During a few practices this week the Raiders did not have pads on but that’s pretty standard this early in the season. Plus, the heat can get to these athletes quick so they are not complaining about not having to wear pads just yet.
The players not wearing pads also opens up a lot of teaching opportunities for coaches and for the Raiders. It allows the coaches and the players to slow plays and drills down do ensure they are learning the proper technique.
Not only that it allows coaches to talk with their players and tell them exactly what they are looking for from their players. Losing so many seniors to graduation last season, this is a major blessing for the Raiders as they can coach up their underclassmen and get them on the same page as the upperclassmen.
This will also help being the team together because while the coaches are making sure every athlete is on the same page the players are doing the same. The leadership on this team has shined through in these first couple of practices as players have been uplifting and correcting one another during drills.
The Raiders are set to kickoff the season on Friday, Aug. 29, were their journey back to the playoffs begins.
