The Rice Raiders started the season on home field when they took on the East Chambers Buccaneers on Friday night.
Unfortunately, luck was not on the Raiders side Friday night as they lost their week one game by a score of 35-10.
The game started with a light first quarter as far as points scored go. East Chambers opened the scoring in the first quarter, and it would be the only score in the first quarter.
So, hanging onto a 7-0 lead the Buccaneers came back in the second quarter and scored once more to go up 14-0 over the Raiders. The Raiders answered back quickly with a 15-yard pass from Kor ‘Dae Johnson to AJ Jenkins for the Raiders first touchdown of the season.
It cut the Buccaneers lead to only one score as the scoreboard now showed 14-7 as the two teams headed into the locker room for halftime. The Raiders got the momentum they needed going into halftime if they were going to comeback in this game.
They cut the lead to only one score and just needed to come out in the second half and continue to execute on offense and they will find a way back in this game.
Unfortunately, it was the Buccaneers that came out swinging in the second half and they scored not one but two touchdowns in the third quarter. With a 28-7 lead going into the fourth quarter the Raiders needed to get something going offensively if they were going to get back in this one because time was no longer on their side.
Coming into the fourth quarter the Raiders were looking to get some chunk plays on offense to move the ball down the field quicker and try to score faster. Things did not play out that way though as the Buccaneers defense kept the Raiders offense in check and the Buccaneers offense even scored once more in the fourth quarter to make it a 35-7 ball game.
The Raiders offense was able to get down the field and kick a field goal late in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 35-10.
The Raiders will take a look at the film this week and figure out what they need to clean up in order to prepare for their week two game against Shiner on the road on Friday, Sept 5, where they will try to pick up their first win in 2025.
