SAS Junior High students have been enjoying some fun electives every Thursday afternoon this quarter. Last week, Messy Science experimented with Coke and Mentos, the Floral students worked on mums for SAS homecoming, and the STREAM students held a “build a boat” challenge to see which boat could hold the most weight. Mrs. Glynn’s hand bell musicians were learning a new song while the SAS cheer squad prepped for the upcoming pep rally on Sept. 9.
Thanks to last year’s 8th grade class donation of a Gaga Ball pit, the fast-paced sport similar to dodgeball has become the newest elective at SAS.
The Lady Saints A volleyball team will compete in the CJHS tournament this coming Saturday, and on Sept. 8, B & C teams will play against St. Michael in Weimar. The Saints football team will begin their season at St. Joseph in Yoakum tomorrow, 9/4 and then they will meet St. Michael on the gridiron in Weimar on 9/8. Cross-country runners Matthias Walla (9th place) and Carley Aaron (12th place) represented SAS well at the Schulenburg meet last Thursday.
The Knights of Columbus council are hosting a drive-thru chicken fried pork steak meal with all the trimmings on Sept. 21 to benefit SAS Special Projects. $13 Tickets are available from any SAS student, and in the school and church offices. The drive-thru line will be at the Columbus Hall from 11am to 1pm, with Catholic Daughters offering desserts.
The SAS PTC is currently accepting donations for the big Halloween Carnival Raffle. Items or monetary donations may be made by notifying the school office by 9/9.
