Weimar ISD approves 2025-2026 budget, tax rate

WEIMAR — Weimar Independent School District approved the budget and tax rate for the 2025-2026 fiscal year during its board meeting, Thursday, Aug. 28.

The board approved a total tax rate of $0.8209 with $0.61890 for maintenance and operations and $0.20200 for interest and sinking. The tax rate decreased from 2024-2025, which was $0.8769. The 2025-2026 budget will have a $1.4 million increase compared to last year due to teacher raises, student resource officers and legislation changes.

“The tax rate went down. That’s the biggest thing,” Superintendent Chase Seelke said. “As far as the budget, most of [the changes] are required from legislative changes.”

The board also reviewed final budget amendments for the 20242025 budget. According to Seelke, the district overspent the original budget but received $1.2 million more in revenue than expected. As a result, the district will end the fiscal year with a surplus for the fund balance. Weimar ISD Business Manager Angie Luksovsky praised the district for having a 100% tax collection rate.

“To be commended, our taxpayers. We are at 100% collections. That’s amazing,” Luksovsky said. “…Our taxpayers pay their bills. That is wonderful. That helps us so much.”

The next board meeting for Weimar ISD is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m.
