Lady Raiders pick up back-to-back wins

The Rice Lady Raiders picked up back-to-back wins this past week to boost them to a 7-9 overall record.

The Lady Raiders took on the likes of Bloomington and Ganado sweeping both teams in only two sets.

Vs. Bloomington, W, 2-0 Coming off of their loss to Palacios the Lady Raiders matched up against Bloomington with an opportunity to get back in the win column. The Lady Raiders had defeated Bloomington earlier this season and in pretty convincing fashion.

This game was no different as the Lady Raiders dominated the game against Bloomington again from start to finish. This was good for the Lady Raiders because each game they win especially in tournaments, early in the season only boosts their confidence.

Their coach, Morgan Hunter, has been making sure her team is getting more confidence with their on court product. She makes sure every player has a role and takes pride in their role, and it is starting to become more and more obvious that the Lady Raiders are going to catch some people’ attention this season.

They are putting together wins and playing cohesively and are only getting better each game.

Vs. Ganado, W, 2-0

This win was the 7th for the Lady Raiders this season and puts them only six games behind their win total from last season. It goes back to what coach Hunter is doing for the girls, she had given them all a role on the team.

Within that role there are responsibilities, if those responsibilities are neglected then the team suffers. No one on the team wants the team to suffer so this season the girls on the court have been very vocal and accountable with themselves.

There have been several instances where girls have stepped up and said, “Hey that’s my bad,” so far this season during a game. What that does is it helps settle the chaos a little bit because when things are getting out of hand having someone take accountability puts everyone else at ease and they can get back to executing their game plan.

It’s working very well so far for the Lady Raiders as they now set their sights on their Colorado County rival the Columbus Lady Cardinals who they will host on Thursday, Sept 12, at Rice Consolidated High School.
