The Weimar VFW Auxiliary to Post 5875 met for its regular meeting on Sept. 8, 2025, with 10 members present and two District 24 Officers, Barbara Koehn, President, District 24 and Irene Szwarc, Deputy Chief of Staff District 24, attending. The meeting was opened according to the Ritual by President Charlene Muras.
Correspondence: President Muras requested that the Auxillary members sign up for the VFW Action Corps which is the national grassroots advocacy network comprised of VFW and Auxiliary members, and patriotic supporters of veterans. Members of the VFW Action Corps can stay up-to-date on the issues facing our veterans, our military and their families; standing ready to email, write, call and visit our nation’s lawmakers to make their voices heard. The VFW Action Corps is free and open to all patriotic Americans who care about the military and veterans’ communities. For more information and to receeive the weekly e-newsletter sign up here: https://www.vfw.org/advocacy/grassroots- efforts There will be a training session to be held on March 7, 2026, at the Austin Holiday Inn that will cover installation, delegations, and national resolutions recently passed. Breakfast and lunch is included in the $40 registration fee. Holiday Inn is offering a special $119 rate for the night before or the night of the meeting. Members are encouraged to attend.
There are currently 13 annual members and 24 life members for a total of 37 members.
Committee reports:
Veterans and Family Support Sara Bansal will be recruiting someone to help her make a sleeping mat.
The Parkview coffee in August had 10 veterans, five residents, and three Auxillary members present.
Auxiliary Outreach
Three members volunteered for the Consider Love Food pantry distribution on Aug. 28.
“Buddy” Poppy/National Home Brian Jessogne will be working on the “Buddy” Poppy display for the national contest.
Chaplain
A get well card was sent to member Kathy Hudec, and seven birthday cards were sent to Auxillary members. It was requested that Auxillary members source donated birthday and Christmas cards to send out to veterans and members. If a member of the public would like to donate cards, please send a Facebook message to the Weimar VFW Auxillary 5875.
Legislative
Charlene Muras asked that the members sign up for the Action Corps weekly newsletter and to support our veterans by responding to email campaigns designed to let our legislators know what issues are important to our veterans and their families.
Patriotism/Americanism
• There will be a flag etiquette class at St Michaels for 7th and 8th graders, and at Weimar Elementary for 4th graders given by Charlene Muras, Jeanette Koenig, Frank White, and James Heinrich.
• Charlene sent infortmation to the local schools regarding Patriot’s Day so they could include that in their daily announcements.
Ways and Means – Charlene Muras Calendars and raffle tickets are still for sale through December.
Unfinished Business and New business:
• Poppy Shoe display and sleeping mat must be done for Nov. 15 meeting.
• September is suicide awareness month. Sara Bansal printed “tear” pictures to pin to our shirts to show our support.
• Jeanette Koenig set up the Missing Man table for the Auxillary meeting and the group came together to recognize and pray for the veterans who are missing, many of which will never return home.
• The next Parkview coffee is September 19th at 9:00am. The Missing Man table will be set up for this event.

The Weimar Auxillary had two guests at our meeting this evening: Barbara Koehn, District 24 President Irene Szwarc, District 24 Deputy Chief of Staff The next Auxillary meeting will be October 14, 2025, at 6:00 pm at the Weimar VFW Hall Kitchen.
