A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses
This article is dedicated to acknowledge examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus — our town.
Are you old enough to immediately understand my title this week? I am going to do a bit of statistical information in this article. It is terribly important that I am ACCURATE...so, you must be honest with the answer to my question. What is a Fibber McGee Closet? If you were born in the late ’30s, I think you will identify very quickly. It’s origin was a radio program that everybody liked. I am going to modify FIBBER MCGEE’S CLOSET to FMC. (It is just too long for Bob to type). This radio program was full of humor – even to a child. It was capable of producing great laughter. Mother and I had that special time set aside to listen.
Even though it was long-long ago, I believe the FMC is present in our homes and lives today. This questionnaire requires great honesty. I believe that any family living in a house for more that 6 months has an FMC. Let’s identify whether or not you have one. My first illustration will help you identify if you have one.
1) An FMC can be located anywhere, often near the front door if it is used to store rain gear and athletic equipment.
2) The FMC will have items you were going to return, hopefully not library books.
3) My FMC has the vacuum, left over wall paper, and a quilt rack. I will stop here before revealing the entire contents.
I asked some friends ( Doreen and Robyn) to help me with this survey. Doreen’s FMC has a box of books (which she tried to give to me). She let me know that Robyn has 3 FMC’s... and they’re all full! Thus, for accuracy, it is very possible for you to have more than one FMC. I have figured in that a percentage who have more than one may be quite high.
I changed my mind – here’s number 4.
4) To help you decide, the FMC might include a bag of clothes for the Good Will, Christmas decorations, other holiday paraphernalia, a couple of gifts for “just in case”, or a few really nice empty boxes. The FMC’s seem to fill up quite quickly and I will enjoy hearing what yours might hold – please do respond in writing.
