Ladycats bounce back into the win column

The Weimar Ladycats hosted the Wallis Brazos Cougarettes this past week in one of their final pre-district games of the year.

The Ladycats were coming off a loss to La Grange that saw them lose in the fifth set of that match, so this game was really important to them.

The importance of the game was made even more clear in the first set when the Ladycats came out with some energy. Thye wasted little time scoring points to start the game too as they executed their bump, set, spike to perfection.

Offensively they were scoring on the Cougaretts in different ways by different players. Sometimes it was Ramsey Tolbert making a big time play at the net or Jaiya Cook coming up with a big block or Janiyah Cooper slamming down one of her booming spikes.

Couple that with stout defensive play and the Ladycats cruised to a 25-15 win in the first set.

The second set was more of the same as the Ladycats started to pour on the points late in the second set. This time though it was the defense that was shining as they held the Cougarettes to only 11 points.

Having back-to-back sets where the opposing team does not even score 20 points is a major confidence boost to any defense. So, the Ladycats carried that confidence into the third set where the Cougarettes offense came to life.

In the third set the Ladycats picked up the win but in the process gave up the most points in a set so far this match. They won the set with a score of 25-22 to end the game and the match.

This put the Ladycats back in the win column in one of their last pre-district games of the season. This gives them a ton of momentum to build on as they dive headfirst into their district schedule next week.

The Ladycats will take on the Ganado Indianettes in their first district game on Tuesday, Sept. 23, on the road in Ganado.
