The Columbus Lady Cardinals defeated the Industrial Cobras this past Tuesday night to improve to a 3-0 record in district play.

In typical Lady Cards fashion, the match did not last too long as they were able to get the job done and defeat Industrial in just three sets.

Despite the fact the Lady Cards swept Industrial it was a very competitive game especially in the first and third set. The second set saw the Lady Cards dominate from start to finish but in the first and third sets, Industrial gave them a run for their money.

The first set ended with a final score of 25-19 with Industrial always staying within striking distance. But as Lady Cards head Coach Kayley Johns has talked about before, her team is battled tested and they are hungry for the big one this year, so they battled through and came away with the win in the first set.

As stated earlier the second set belonged solely to the Lady Cards as their potent and high-flying offense suffocated Industrial. They came away with a 25-16 win in set two and both teams came out swinging in the third set.

Much like the first set Industrial was always within striking distance to take the Lady Cards lead away from them. But once again the Lady Cards showed just how gritty they are this year and gutted out a 25-20 win in the third set.

Offensively the Lady Cards were led by Harper Gerik who racked up 13 kills in the win over Industrial. Gracie Schobel also got in on the action with eight kills followed by Thea Schobel and Emma Calhoun who each recorded four kills each.

To set those kills up these ladies needed some assistance and three players on the lady Cards each recorded assist. Leading the team in assists was Riley Kainer who recorded 17 assists followed by Lucy Schobel who recorded 11 assists and then finally Caylie Neisner recorded three assists.

Neisner was also a part of the defensive effort as she recorded 20 digs followed by Gerik who had 13 and Fitzgerld and Lucy Schobel each recorded seven digs.

The Lady cards look to continue to stack up win their district schedule with their next opportunity coming on the road against their district rival Hallettsville on Friday, Sept. 26, at 4:30 p.m.

Harper Gerik led the team with 13 kills in the win over Industrial.
