COLUMBUS CARDINALS 28, MADISONVILLE MUSTANGS 13
The Columbus Cardinals jumped back into the win column Friday night after they defeated the Madisonville Mustangs.
Coming off a loss the Cards knew how important this game was against the Mustangs, and they came out and picked up a 28-13 win.
The game started a little slow for both offenses as there was a grand total of 13 points scored in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter the Cards were up 7-6 and in the second quarter their offense started to come to life.
In the second quarter the Cards were able to find the endzone two more times to extend their lead. The Mustangs answered back with a score of their own to carry a 21-13 score in favor of the Cards into halftime.
Coming out of halftime the Cards defense stood tall and shut the Mustangs out for the rest of the game. This allowed the Cards offense to play a little bit looser after halftime and in the third quarter they scored their fourth and final touchdown of the game.
For the rest of the game the Cards offense did a great job of taking care of the football while killing the clock. On defense they continued to hound the Mustangs offensive line and harass the quarterback resulting in a 28-13 win for the Cardinals.
The Cards relied heavily on their rushing attack Friday night but still found some success in the passing game. Jack Schobel completed one of his three passes for 75 yards for a touchdown.
The recipient of that touchdown pass was Brennan Hicks who torched the Mustangs defense for 75 yards to score. Schobel and Hicks were a part of the rushing attack as well too with Schobel carrying the ball 16 times for 79 yards and a touchdown and Hicks carrying the ball eight times for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Bryan Salazar also got in on the ground attack carrying the ball 14 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. While Jesus Mendoza went 4/4 on his extra points Friday night.
The Cards now look ahead to their next game against longtime rival, the Bellville Brahmas, on the road on Friday, Sept. 26, where the Cards will look to pick up a win in a hostile environment.

Bryan Salazar recorded 101 yards on the ground during Friday’s win over Madisonville and even found the endzone one time.
