The Weimar Wildcats traveled to San Antonio to take on the Holy Cross Knights in their final non-district game of the year.
By the end of the game the Wildcats were on the losing end of this one with a score of 38-16 for their first loss this season.
The game started rather slowly for a Wildcat offense that has been explosive to start the season. They were held to a total of zero points while Holy Cross scored nine points to hold a 9-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Wildcats quickly responded in the second quarter with a three-yard pass from Collin Morrison to Raul Sierra for the touchdown. Unfortunately, Holy Cross came storming back down the field and connected on a 54-yard pass for a touchdown to go up 16-6.
The Wildcats were able to gain back some momentum though as they kicked a 35-yard field goal to end the half with a score of 16-9.
To start the second half Holy Cross continued to execute their offense well and connected on a 19yard strike for a touchdown to go up 23-9. Jerron Fisher had an answer for Holy Cross though as he ripped off a 43-yard run for a touchdown to make the score 23-16.
Weimar’s defense then made a big play as they recorded a safety against Holy Cross to start the fourth quarter. With the score at 23-18 the Wildcats looked to re-take the lead in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Holy Cross’ offense continued to pour on the points and scored two more touchdowns to arrive at a final score of 36-18.
Stat wise for the Wildcats Morrison completed 60% of his passes going 6/10 for 48 yards and a touchdown Friday night. Jerron Fisher led the team with eight carries for 53 yards and one touchdown followed by Mikael Shifatu who carried the ball 15 times for 31 yards.
Ace Mesa led the receivers with two receptions for 70 yards and then of course Sierra caught the lone touchdown pass for three yards.
The Wildcats now gear up for their next game against district rivals, the Schulenburg Shorthorns, which is two weeks away on Friday, Oct. 3, in Schulenburg.
