Raiders fall to 0-4

The Rice Raiders traveled to Hallettsville to take on the Hallettsville Brahmas in their final non-district game of the year.

The Raiders were unfortunately on the losing end of this game as the Brahmas defeated the Raiders 34-27.

In the first half it was a very slow start for the Raiders offense as they only scored six points before halftime. The score sat at 28-6 and a frustrated Raider offense came out in the second half and put on a show.

The Raiders gave up only six points in the second half of the game to give themselves the best chance to climb back into this game. While the defense did their job the offense scored 21 points in the second half but unfortunately fell just short when the final buzzer sounded.

Junior quarterback for the Raiders Kor’Dae Johnson had a monster game Friday night completing 65% of his passes. He completed 20 of his 31 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

The recipient of both of those touchdowns was senior wide receiver AJ Jenkins who caught seven passes for 100 yards and of course two touchdowns.

Johnson also did a lot of damage in the rushing attack as he carried the ball 10 times for a total of 77 yards, which led the team. Not only that but Johnson also found the endzone two more times on the ground to cap off a strong Friday night performance.

The Raiders will dive headfirst and look to pick up the first win of the season next week. The good news is not only do they have the opportunity to pick up their first win of the season but also have a chance to pick up their first district win of the year.

The Raiders will travel again next week to Boling to take on the Boling Bulldogs for their first district game of the year on Friday, Sept. 26, looking for their first win of the season.
