Poll Workers: The Heart of Our Democracy

The Colorado County Elections Office is pleased to introduce Michelle Cates Karr, one of the county’s newest election officials, serving her home community of Weimar, Precinct 201. Raised in Colorado County, Karr recently returned to the area to raise her own family— and quickly found herself drawn to public service.

Karr began her involvement in elections in 2024, initially seeking to better understand the voting process. What started as a learning opportunity quickly became a passion.

“I first got involved in elections in 2024 because I wanted to see how the process really worked,” said Karr. “What I thought would just be a learning exper ience turned into something I truly enjoy being part of. I want voters to know that voting in Colorado County is well-run and reliable, and I encourage everyone to get involved—you might be surprised by how rewarding it is.”

Karr serves at the Weimar branch Early Voting location and continues her work on Election Day, helping ensure that voters have a smooth and secure experience at the polls.

The Colorado County Elections Office is proud to support dedicated citizens like Michelle Cates Karr, whose service strengthens the integrity and reliability of elections throughout the county.
