The Rice Lady Raiders are still searching for their first district win of the season after falling to the Industrial Cobras.
The Lady Raiders were swept by the Cobras in three straight sets so let’s dive in and look at what happened.
In the first set it was a bit of a back-and-forth match for the first half where the Lady Raiders hung in there. Unfortunately, as the set wore on the Cobras started to go on runs where they were scoring five or six points at a time.
The Lady Raiders did a good job of breaking the serve whenever they were in the middle of these runs but just could not get their offense going to work themselves back into the game.
The Cobras ended up walking away with a 2525 set win over the Lady Raiders in the first set and all eyes shifted to the second set. In the second set the Lady Raiders offensive struggled again, and their defense also struggled.
It was not their best set and definitely one that they wanted back because they lost this set 25-3. Now the Lady Raiders know that they did not play to their standards in this one so there really is not too much to breakdown.
It was an outlier for a team trying to build themselves back up to winning ways, so to lose a set that bad was just a lack of focus on the court. It’s something that is easily fixable and the good news is Lady Raiders Head Coach Morgan Hunter is making sure the they never experience another set like that and learn from it.
That brings us to the third and final set of the match where the Lady Raiders returned to form a little bit. They did lose this set 25-10 bu they played with a little bit more energy and some confidence.
They got back to looking at the positives while playing the set instead of getting bogged down by the negatives. The benefit to that is they scored seven more points in the third set than they did in the second.
Which just goes to show that the fight is not dead inside these Lady Raiders and they are still hungry and focused on helping build this program.
The Lady Raiders now set their sights on their next game against the Yoakum Bulldogs on Tuesday, Sept. 30, which is another opportunity to pick up their first district win of the season.

Breelyn Freeman tips the ball over the net and past a defender to earn a point.
