Lady Raiders still in search of their first district win

The Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team is still searching for their first win in their district schedule after dropping back-to-back games this past week.

They took on Tidehaven and Yoakum on their home court at Rice Consol idated High School but unfortunately ended up losing both in three straight sets.

In the game against Tidehaven, the Lady Raiders just never quite found there footing and TIdehaven came out strong to start the game. This caused the Lady Raider to trail on the scoreboard early in the match.

They Lady Raiders confidence started to shrink a little bit in this moment and the on court talk started to go silent. They started falling back on old habits from last season instead of continuing to fight like they have been doing all season long.

The thing about the Lady Raiders team is they are a talented volleyball team, but they seem to be the only ones who don’t bel ieve it. There have been times this season where the Lady Raiders are caught in the middle of a play and they start to overthink then they hesitate and then the balls on the ground on their end of the court.

As soon as they stop second guessing themselves and each other this team can catch lighting in a bottle.

Following the first loss to Tidehaven the Lady Raiders came back with some more fight in game two against Yoakum. Now the Lady Raiders ended up losing this one in three straight sets as well, but they returned to the form they have been in all season long and gave Yoakum a fight.

It’s tough for these young ladies because losing so many games can be frustrating. Any athlete knows the feeling but, the Lady Raiders must keep this “fight till the final whistle” mentality because it will benefit them in the future.

While this team may not end up winning the State Championship this is the season where the standard is set. That way next season when new faces throw on the Lady Raider uniform, they can continue to build the program and return the lady Raiders volleyball team back to playoff contention.

The Lady Raiders will be on the hunt for their first district win then they take on the Palacios Sharkettes on Friday, Oct. 10, on their home court in Altair, TX.
