Wildcats overpower Shorthorns

The Weimar Wildcats were on a bye week last week and took that time to rest to ensure they would be ready for their game against the Schulenburg Shorthorns.

They were more than ready as they came out and picked up a 41-26 win over the Shorthorns to win their first district game of the year.

The Wildcats opened the scoring with a rushing touchdown from Mikael Shifatu and then he came back and scored the second touchdown of the game as well. This gave the Wildcats a 13-0 lead by the end of the 1st quarter.

In the 2nd quarter the Shorthorns were able to cut the Wildcats lead to one score as they were able to find the endzone. Then Jerron Fisher found a lane to score and reestablished the two-score cushion over the Shorthorns.

The Shorthorns scored once more before halftime and carried a 20-12 score in favor of the Wildcats into the break.

In the second half Sammy Hernandez scored to push the score to 27-12 before the Shorthorns once again responded to make the score 27-18. Then Raul Sierra found the endzone on a four-yard run but then the Shorthorns responded to keep the game close.

Collin Morrison then took matters into his own hands and ran the ball in from one yard out to arrive at the final score of 41-26.

Morrison finished the game completing four of his five pass attempts for 99 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground Shifatu led the way for the Wildcats with 20 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown.

Fisher had a great night on the ground with 11 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown while Sierra carried the ball five times for 55 yards and a touchdown. Receiving wise Ace Mesa led the way with one catch for 39 yards while Fisher caught one pass for 34 yards.
