Raiders sunk by East Bernard

The Rice Raiders are still winless for the 2025 season after falling to the East Bernard Brahmas last Friday night.

The Raiders were handed a 49-28 loss to fall to 0-6 on the season and 0-2 through district play.

The game started with the East Bernard Brahmas connecting on a passing touchdown to open the scoring. The Raiders responded as Kor’Dae Johnson uncorked a deep pass to Glenn Mills to tie the game back up at 7-7.

The Brahmas responded with another touchdown before the 1st quarter ended to carry a 14-7 lead into the 2nd quarter.

In the 2nd quarter Kor’Dae Johnson led the Raiders down the field and connected with AJ Jenkins for a touchdown to tie the game at 14-14. Unfortunately for the Raiders the Brahmas score two more touchdowns to increase their lead to 28-14 going into halftime.

East Bernard continued to score in the second half of the as they scored the first touchdown of the 3rd quarter to go up 35-14 over the Raiders. East Bernard then scored the next touchdown in the game as they punched one into the endzone on the ground to bring the score to 42-14.

In the 4th quarter the Raiders again found the endzone as Johnson found Jenkins again to cut the score down to 42-21. The Brahmas scored once more to push the score to 4921and then Johnson connected with Brayden James to get to the final score of 49-28.

Johnson finished the game completing 12 of his 19 pass attempts (63%) for 260 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. He connected with Jenkins twice for touchdowns, but Jenkins caught a total of five passes for 46 yards.

Then Mills caught two passes for 89 yards and a touchdown Friday night and then James caught the last touchdown for 18 yards Friday night.

In the run game the Raiders did not score a touchdown but had Ta’Rell Tarver carry the ball 12 times for a total of 31 yards. James also contributed to the run game with seven carries for 41 yards.

The Raiders now look ahead in their schedule where they will hit the road to take on the Wallis Brazos Cougars on Friday, Oct. 10, with kick off set for 7:30 p.m.
