COLUMBUS VOLLEYBALL

The Columbus Lady Cardinals improved to 10-0 in district play after picking up back-to-back district wins this past week.

The Lady Cards took on the Rice Consolidated Lady Raiders and the Industrial Lady Cobras and swept both teams in three straight sets.

Vs. Rice, W, 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-16)

In their first game, the Lady Cards welcomed the Lady Raiders for their first of two district games. The Lady Cards completely dominated this game from the opening serve and held the Lady Raiders to under 10 points in two sets.

The Lady Cards picked up a 25-8 win in the first set and a 25-7 win in the second set to take two sets to none lead into the final set. The Lady Raiders offense came to life in the final set as they racked up 16 points, but the Lady Cards took home the win 25-16.

Harper Gerik led the team with 10 kills, and she was followed by Gracie Schobel, who recorded eight kills. Riley Kainer led the team with 16 assists with Lucy Schobel right behind her with nine assists and then Caylie Neisner led the team with six digs.

With all the wind in their sails, the Lady Cards traveled to Industrial for their second district game this week.

In their second game, the Lady Cards continued to execute at a high level as they swept the Lady Cobras. It was a bit more of a competitive game for the Lady Cards as Industrial pushed them to the brink in the first two sets and kept the third set close.

The result was the say though as the Lady Cards picked up their second district win of the week and their tenth district win of the season. This puts the Lady Cards firmly in control of the district standings as they eye another district championship.

Harper Gerik again led the team with nine kills, and she was followed by Gracie Schobel was right behind her with seven kills. Riley Kainer again led the team in assists as she recorded nine assists, followed by Lucy Schobel, who recorded seven assists.

Caylie Neisner also had a huge game for the Lady Cards as she recorded 15 digs and five assists on their way to a win.

The Lady Cards will be back on the road for their next district game as they will travel to Yoakum on Friday, Oct. 17, with the opening serve set for 4:30 p.m.
