Columbus Historical Preservation Trust launches search for new executive director

The Columbus Historical Preservation Trust (CHPT) is seeking its next Executive Director to lead the organization into an exciting new chapter of growth and community engagement.

Founded in 1961, CHPT is dedicated to preserving the rich history and heritage of Columbus and Colorado County. The organization owns and maintains four historic properties, including the iconic 1886 Stafford Opera House, currently undergoing extensive renovation with a grand reopening planned for 2026.

“We are proud to invest in this new Executive Director position, which represents both growth for the organization and allows for new opportunities for the community we serve,” said Julie Prause, CHPT Interim Board President. “We are seeking a passionate leader who can connect with the community, inspire support, and help us bring the Stafford Opera House back to life as a vibrant hub for arts, culture, and community events as well as provide a destination for private events.”

CHPT has been fortunate to have dedicated leadership throughout its history, beginning with Laura Ann Rau, CHPT’s first Executive Director, then most recently Melissa Parker. Building on that foundation, the new executive director will serve as the public face of CHPT, focusing on fundraising, community partnerships, and donor engagement while overseeing daily operations and events.

Applications are open until Oct. 17. For details and to apply, visit www.columbushpt. com
