The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum (PLCTM) is hosting a Fall Open House Oct. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The open house is in conjunction with Heritage Fest and Muzicky, sponsored by The Texas Czech Heritage Culture Center (TCHCC). The Public is invited to attend and celebrate the current fall season. These October events are based around Czech culture with many activities; dance opportunities, entertainment, exhibits, delicious food and drink both days and it all takes place within the Czech Village located in the La Grange Fairgrounds.
As a tribute to…POLKA, the music that continues to rock our state, nation and world; there will be a lot of polka music, dancing opportunities entertainment and refreshments in the museum all beginning at 5 PM Friday the 18.
Upon celebrating the first anniversary of the “Frank’s Bar Exhibit”, Virginia Leech, daughter of Frank Mika will present the true story behind the bar now located in the museum at 6 p.m.
The museum opens again on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with opportunities to dance Polka and Waltz for anyone and any age wishing to dance to the happy music made for happy people. These breaks will take place at 11:30 a.m., 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
In between dance breaks; entertainment will be provided by Gene Hackemack, Brenham; also known as “Squeeze Man,” well known accordion player across the country; and famous for putting Polka music into space.
Event organizers are requesting attendees to bring non-perishable food item(s), toiletries and children’s toy(s) to be distributed to locally sponsored holiday programs.
The Museum opened in 2006 with the primary mission to provide a facility to incorporate the accumulation of memorabilia to provide exhibits depicting the evolution of Polka Music and Dance dating back to the early 1900s.
The museum is located at 275 West Fairgrounds Road, La Grange, TX 78945 within the Fayette County Fairgrounds in the Czech Village with a mission to preserve, promote and educate polka music and dance. For more information go to plctm.com.
