The Rice Lady Raiders lost their most recent district game in three straight sets to the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas.
This kept the Lady Raiders losing streak alive as they continue to search for their first district win of the season.
The Lady Raiders are a young team, so growing pains are expected. The Lady Raiders turned in a much better performance after last week’s blowout to the Columbu Lady Cardinals.
After scoring a grand total of 15 points in the first two sets against the Lady Cards the Lady Raiders came out and scored 12 points in the first set against Hallettsville. Now, that doesn’t seem like a lot and it isn’t, but it is a step in the right direction for a team that is looking to get back on track.
In the second and third sets, the Lady Raiders scored 11 and 16 points respectively, which again is not a lot. But after the Lady Raiders offense looked like a shell of itself in the blowout loss against the Lady Cards, it was nice to see the Lady Raiders offense get their swagger back, even though it may have been a small amount of swagger.
Having such a young team, the Lady Raiders could benefit from taking away the positives in a game like this even though they lost. The biggest positive takeaway is that they scored more points against another team that is in the mix for the District Championship.
That’s a big confidence boost, especially after the game against Columbus. The Lady Raiders proved to themselves that they may not be quite at the level to beat these teams on a consistent basis, but they can keep up and compete with these extremely talented teams.
Looking at the score differences between the two games against Columbus and Hallettsville, it’s plain to see that it’s all mental for the Lady Raiders. If they continue to play with the right mindset, they will continue to see improvements as this season comes to a close in a couple of weeks.
The Lady Raiders will close the season on the road against Yoakum on Friday, Oct. 24, with the opening serve scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
