The Columbus Lady Cardinals improved to an 11-0 record in district after they defeated the Tidehaven Lady Tigers.
The Lady Cards defeated Tidehaven in three straight sets to pick up their 11th consecutive win in district play this season.
The Lady Cards feel like they have something special in their locker room and have set some pretty big goals for themselves in 2025. The good news is they keep winning, and this win inches them ever so closer to achieving the goals they made for themselves at the start of the year.
The match started out business as usual for the Lady Cards as the took the game right to Tidehaven on offense and suffocated them on defense. The Lady Cards defense stood tall in the first set and held Tidehaven to only 11 points.
The Lady Cards offense is one of the best in the district and that’s no secret, so while the defense kept Tidehaven at bay, the offense went to work. They closed out the set with a score of 25-11 to get some early momentum.
In the second set the Lady Cards continued to pressure a Tidehaven but Tidehaven came ready to play in the second set. The Lady Cards defense wavered a bit in the second set, giving up 18 points to Tidehaven.
Fortunately, the Lady Cards offense did not waver in the second set, and they scored the 25 points necessary to win the set 25-18.
It was a closer set but with two sets to none lead going into the third set, the Lady Cards knew what they needed to do to come away with the victory in this one. They come out firing on all cylinders in the third set, and their defense returned to form.
They held Tidehaven to only 12 points while they cruised to a 25-12 victory to end the match.
Leading the way offensively for the Lady Cards was Gracie Schobel who racked up 12 kills in the win over Tidehaven. Harper Gerik and Emma Calhoun were right behind Schobel with nine and six kills respectively.
In the assists category, Riley Kainer once again led the Lady Cards in assists with 15, Lucy Schobel also had a good assist night as she racked up 12 assists. Then finally Caylie Neisner recorded six assists during the Lady Cards win.
Neiser also led the team with eight digs, followed by Mary Fitzgerald with five digs and then finally Gerik who had recorded four digs in the victory.
The Lady Cards now look ahead to their next game against Enda on their home court in Columbus on Friday, Oct. 24, with the opening serve scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
