The Weimar Wildcats improved to a 6-1 record overall and a 2-1 record in district after defeating the Bloomington Bobcats Friday night.
The Wildcats defeated the Bobcats by a score of 42-13 to pick up their second district win of the year as they continue to push for a playoff spot.
The game started with an opening drive touchdown for the Wildcats as Jerron Fisher scored his first touchdown of the night. Then Sammy Hernandez kicked the Point After Touchdown through the upright to put the Wildcats up 7- 0.
The Bobcats came back down the field and were able to find the endzone and after a missed PAT, the Wildcats still led 7-6. Then Fisher scored his second touchdown of the night and after Hernandez kicked the PAT the Wildcats led 14-6.
Shortly after the Bobcats picked up a fumble and returned it all the wall for a touchdown to cut the Wildcats lead back to only one point. With the score at 14-13, Mikael Shifatu was handed the ball, and he punched it into the endzone to put the Wildcats up 21-13.
Shifatu was not done though as he found the endzone for a second time to start the third quarter to put the Wildcats up 28-13. Then Fisher scored his third and final touchdown of the night shortly after making the score 35-13.
Then Ty Chmelik ripped off a 65-yard run for a touchdown to arrive at the final score of 42-13. Chmelik also led the Wildcats with six and half total tackles and was tied with Ace Mesa with two tackles for loss while Collin Morrison recorded the only interception for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats relied heavily on the rushing attack Friday night as all six of their touchdowns came on the ground. Fisher led the way with 10 carries for 163 yards and three touchdowns.
Behind him was Shifatu who carried the ball 14 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns, and Chmelik carried the ball three times for 74 yards and scored one touchdown. While the offense did its job and scored touchdowns and Hernandez did his job going a perfect 6/6 on his PAT kicks.
The Wildcats now look ahead to their next district game against Danbury, which has a 7:30 p.m. kickoff, and it will also be Homecoming for the Wildcats.
