The Weimar Ladycats have now dropped back-to-back district games after they lost to the Schulenburg Lady Horns in five sets this past Tuesday.

The Ladycats put up a great fight but just fell short in five sets as their district rivals picked up a very important district win.

The game started out with Schulenburg winning the first set, and it was a wakeup call for the Ladycats in this game. The first set was an odd one for the Ladycats, and they seemed out of sorts on offense and defense.

There were several communication issues on defense that led to points for Schulenburg while the offense just never really found their footing. It was an uncharacteristic set from the Ladycats that ended with a score of 25-18, but they were hungry to get the second set started.

The second set was a fiercely competitive one as both teams brought their A Game in the second set. With neither team being able to establish a lead to make it a sprint to 25 points to declare the winner.

Fortunately, the Ladycats were the ones who were able to break away on the scoreboard right at the end of the set. They closed out the second set with a score of 25-23 and quickly shifted focus to the third set.

In the third set, the Ladycats defense put on a stellar show for the fans in the stands as they held Schulenburg to only 11 points. The Ladycats took full advantage of the extra offensive possessions they received thanks to their stout defense and won the third set with a score of 25-11.

In the fourth set it was a no holds barred heavyweight match as these teams almost reached 30 points each while in overtime. The Ladycats knew how important it was to close out the set, but Schulenburg knew they were playing against a rival and had to keep their foot on the gas pedal.

Schulenburg came away with a 28-26 win in the fourth set to set the stage for the fifth and final set of the game.

In the fifth set it is a race to 15 points, and this time it was Schulenburg’s defense that came to play and held the Ladycats to only 11 points. This opened the door for Schulenburg to pick up a 15-11 win in the final set to win the match.

The Ladycats are locked in a playoff spot but they will look to clean up the mistakes that cost them the game against Schulenburg as they hope to have a deep playoff run this season.

Madison Luckey prepares to serve the ball to start the point.
