COLUMBUS CARDINALS 26, HITCHCOCK BULLDOGS 7
The Columbus Cardinals defeated their district rivals, the Hitchcock Bulldogs, Friday night on their home field in Columbus.
The Cards won the game with a score of 26-7 to improve to a 6-2 overall record and a 2-0 record in district.
The Cards and the Bulldogs both came out and scored on their opening offensive possessions. The difference was that the Cards unfortunately missed the Point After Touchdown to leave the score at 6-7 in favor of the Bulldogs at the end of the first quarter.
The Cards did not let this phase them though and they came back in the second quarter and scored two touchdowns to increase the lead to 20-7. They carried this lead into halftime and at this point in the game the Cards defense started to take over.
The Cards defense did give up a touchdown in the first quarter but after giving up the touchdown, the Cards defense pitched a shutout. They kept the Bulldogs off the score board in the second, third and fourth quarters while forcing two fumbles on their way to a victory.

While the defense had their way with the Bulldogs in the second half, the offense was able to find the endzone once more for a final score of 26-7.
Quarterback Jack Schobel completed six of his 14 passes for 52 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception. He also contributed to the run game with 12 rushes for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
While Schobel helped out in the run game, it was Doc Cantu who led the way for the Cardinals out of the back field. He carried the ball 15 times for 111 yards and even scored a touchdown.
In the receiving game, it was Brody Vinklarek who caught the lone touchdown from Schobel, and it was a 28-yard touchdown. Vinklarek led the Cards with 28 yards, but Schobel’s favorite target Friday night was Brennan Hicks, who caught three passes for 13 yards.
Hicks also played a role in the run game as he carried the ball six times for nine yards. Vinklarek also made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball as he recorded the only interception for the Cardinals Friday night.
The Cards now look ahead in their schedule where next week they will travel to take on Hallettsville on Friday, Oct. 31, for a Halloween kickoff.
